Nightclub To Replace Gala Bingo Hall
There is no sadder sight in the world than seeing a bingo hall lying empty. These buildings, which once brought joy and happiness to many people, now stand as a symbol for the current economic problems the country faces and of the changing nature of society. Closed bingo halls have to be taken in context with the financial problems that people face but there needs to be a look at other aspects as well. Online bingo is a far more serious threat to traditional bingo halls than some people would give credit. It is good that players can still keep playing and the overall bingo industry is unaffected but there will be some people who never take to the online bingo game.
Why are bingo halls closed?
It may be that the bingo halls, many housed in traditional and great looking buildings, are lying empty due to the fact that some people are opposed to what could replace the halls. It is clear that only so many things are going to be able to take advantage of the size and layout of the halls and this isn’t always going to lend itself to a local community. There may be a situation brewing in Cambridge where even though the sight of an empty bingo hall is not popular, it may be better than what could be coming in.
Big plans for former bingo hall
There is a huge nightclub destined for Cambridge later on this year and the local police force have already spoken out about the problems that could come along with this new venture. The former Gala Bingo hall has been closed since the summer of 2009 but with plans for The Jam House well underway and looking as though but will be open to the public for the Christmas celebrations, there are concerns about the impact on the local community. The current building is a perfect example of the art deco style that has been so celebrated in bingo halls up and down the country but given that the building already sits next to a nightclub, there are big concerns this could lead to trouble when different punters rolls out at the end of the night.
Either way, it seems as though the days of the bingo empire in Cambridge are long gone. With online bingo games providing an outlet things aren’t too bad but there is a need for people to keep on playing.
