Charity Group Can’t Provide More Bingo Games
One of the things about charity groups that is often overlooked revolves around the support and activities they provide to people who need it most. It is obvious why there will often be a focus on the financial side of life but for many people, it is the support or community benefits that they enjoy the most. A lot of people appreciate the opportunity to spend time with others and to get out of the house more than they really worry about the financial aspect and this is something that should never be overlooked.
Bingo is a great thing for a local community
Of course, it takes money to put events on or to provide support so in that sense, money will always underpin anything a charity or local community group does but it will never be the main focus for a number of people. Sadly, if the money is not there, there is no future for many groups and that is exactly the case for one local charity shop in Nunsthorpe. Susan Olds, who is the director of the Nunsthorpe and Bradley Park Community Trust Ltd has, alongside her husband run a charity shop in Second Avenue in Nunsthorpe since 2005.
The shop is being closed down in June this year though with Mrs Olds citing a lack of support from local authorities and other shops and bodies in the area. In a swipe at the Tory government, Mrs Olds believes that there is no big society working in her local community and it is this that has seen the shop come to a halt. The thing is though, the current financial climate means that everyone is in the same boat and even though people do want more from those who can afford to pay more, this is not always possible.
The local residents will definitely feel the brunt of the shop shutting down as it has held many events. The shop has been the host for many regular bingo games and this has definitely been a huge focal point for the community. However, with no money coming in and the shop suffering due to a gang claiming to act on behalf of the shop claiming a lot of donations, the charity shop just can’t continue to function. Once again, those that need help most, miss out, which is a major problem for many people today.
