Bingo Caller Celebrates 102 Birthday
When you retire, most people look forward to having some relaxing times and hopefully getting some extra years at the end of your life. It is always sad to hear of someone working hard all of their life and then not getting a chance to enjoy a healthy retirement for at least a good few years. However, when you read about someone who manages to pack in a lot of extra life after they stop working, it is always good and should provide some encouragement. Mind you, it seems as though some of the secret for Arthur Owen, who celebrated his 102 birthday is to keep busy and active.
Bingo calls keep you young
Forty years ago, Arthur Owen, rather than settling down to enjoy his retirement set up the Runcorn Pensioners Club and he is still behind the club and giving it a lot of support. Arthur used to run the club alongside his sister and they managed to create a lot of fun and excitement. In his prime, Arthur was very hands on with the club and one of his main tasks was being the bingo caller. It may seem like an easy job but if you do a bad job as a bingo caller, you will soon know all about it. The fact that Arthur managed to stay in position for such a long time indicated that he clearly knew how to get the crowd on his side and give them what they wanted to hear. Well, they would want to hear the winning numbers but that wasn’t something that Arthur was in control of.
Even when the club took a slight change in becoming the Active Pensioners Club and Arthur took more of a back seat, he was still fully behind the club and would often be seen arriving every week with flowers for the ladies. This may be the actions of an old-time charmer but in the right hands, it can be a fun way to get to know people. Arthur continued this tradition at his 102 birthday party as he treated all the ladies present to a red rose. That gives the impression that Arthur is not for slowing down or toddling off just yet and he still enjoys getting involved with bingo games. Mind you, it is a great way to meet women so you can hardly blame Arthur for keeping active on the bingo circuit!
