Bingo Brings People Together

It is understandable why some people think of bingo as being a game that is only for the elderly and dismiss it as something that young people wouldn’t enjoy. This is far from the truth though and there are many youngsters who enjoy a game of bingo. It can be a fun way to play with friends but it can also provide some educational benefit to youngsters, which is always important in the current climate. When you think about the fact that both the young and the old can enjoy bingo, it makes sense to try and use bingo to bring the two groups together.

Bingo spans the generations

It is often the unknown factor that causes the two groups to be wary of them. There is no doubt that some elderly people will be wary of groups of youngsters but they shouldn’t feel that every child or youngster that is not part of their family is looking to rob them or cause them problems. There are more than enough good people in both age brackets and local community groups should be working hard to bring them both together. Letting young and old people spend time with each other is the best way to let them know that there is nothing to worry about from the other group.

This has definitely been the case in the Lincoln Elementary School in the United States of America who have been working hard to bring their local community groups together. For the past 6 months, pupils from the school have been exchanging letters with elderly relatives of Sterling House but the school decided it was time to bring the two groups together. The best way to do this they decided was through bingo, arranging a big bingo session at the care home with the pupils playing alongside their pen-pals.

Bingo preparing children for later life

The idea for the get-together was originally provided by a local group called the McPherson School District’s Citizen, College and Career ready initiative, a group that prides itself on providing a form of community service. It also helps to prepare school pupils for life outside of school and it is easy to see why interacting with elderly people can be of benefit to a number of youngsters. Life outside of school isn’t always as fun as playing bingo but with a few barriers broken down, it may be a less scary place for some youngsters.
