Bingo Boosts Village Hall Preservation Society
When it comes to all things quintessentially British, very few people have managed to capture it better than Ray Davies, the principle songwriter in The Kinks. Over a number of years, the lyricist managed to recreate exactly what Britain was in years gone by and indeed, still was in the hearts and minds of many of the people. Add to this the fact that the band managed to transform their sound into a more gentrified atmosphere, capturing the scene perfectly, it is no surprise that when memories of the way we used to live appear, people’s thoughts turn to The Kinks.
Bingo is part of local life
This is definitely the case for the people of Horncastle who have recently banded together in the hope of raising funds for the local village hall. The song, and album, ‘Village Green Preservation Society’ by The Kinks captured the community spirit and camaraderie that was alive in those days but it seems that in 2011, they are still alive and kicking. This is great news for the people who fear the worst about modern society and what overall impact is happening on the country. The fact that there are people who are still willing to work together as a local community and raise funds off their own back should be something that acts as a counterbalance to the images of rioting and looting that has been a focal point on our television screens in the past few months.
Bingo always rallies a community
As you would expect, one of the main sources of the income for the group has been bingo, which will always be a massive favourite in local towns and communities. The ability to raise funds through charity bingo games has become ever more notable in recent years and even though the major bingo halls are struggling to raise funds like they used to, there is still a spirit about the game which seems to rally people when it is needed most.
A number of bingo sessions have already taken place this month but there is one big final game scheduled for the 25th of October and organisers are hoping for a really great turnout. The prizes for the evening are still being put together but it is hoped that there will be a number of gifts that are well worth playing for, which will see people turn out again in big numbers to raise the coffers of their local village hall.
